Description

This course is designed to assist teacher candidates in becoming caring, reflective and competent professionals and to prepare them to meet the educational needs of diverse and exceptional learners in America's schools. This course focuses on the concept that each student deserves access to education, and a teacher must nurture and support each student's learning. Students will identify the needs presented by diverse classrooms: developmental and cognitive diversity, linguistic diversity, socioeconomic diversity, racial and ethnic diversity, and gender diversity. The course also explores notions of equity that will prepare teacher candidates to create learning environments that are free of bias and provide a differentiated approach to education designed to meet the needs of all students.
