Description

Have you ever listened to your favorite musical artist and felt like their song lyrics were pure poetry? Have you every wondered where the inspiration for your favorite song came from? Join us this fall for a deep dive into the connections between literature and songwriting, and to enjoy some awesome music! We’ll look at a variety of songs and artists across a broad range of musical genres, such as the madrigals of the Renaissance, to the jazz greats, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, to pop and folk legends like The Beatles and Bob Dylan, and modern-day music makers, including Taylor Swift, Lana del Rey, and Kendrick Lamar. We’ll also examine how these artists have been influenced by literature, from Shakespeare, to the Romantic Poets, to Lewis Carol and J.R.R. Tolkein. We’ll also consider a few ways that songs have influenced literature!
