Description
This course provides elementary teacher candidates with a foundation in reading instruction. It focuses on the theories and strategies that reflect best practice. Candidates will learn how to diagnose reading difficulties, how to use intervention strategies to assist struggling readers, and how to foster disciplinary literacy across the curriculum. Candidates will gain practical experience by completing a minimum of 10 hours of classroom observation and directed experiences in reading instruction. Prerequisite: Meet all requirements for pre-admission to the teacher education program. (Transition One).
